Whiteface Mountain
5021 Route 86
Wilmington, NY, 12997
*Note: Whiteface, as with other big mountains, can get extreme weather. If the temperature is projected to exceed 85 degrees or below 40 degrees with precipitation at the summit on raceday, we may push back until Sunday (weather delay). We may also delay start times if lightning is present / active around the mountain.
Wave Check-In and Start Times?
At this point (January, 2022) we will hope to again be able to have mass-starts. If the COVID situation worsens, we may return to wave-start format. If that should happen we will post a link to wave start times and names document here.
Location is on deck outside of the main lodge overlooking the gondola. Pin on Google maps. In the case of inclement weather we will relocate to a porch or breezeway near the pavilion and notify entrants.
Event parking will be in the large lot to your right before the bridge near the Whiteface Mountain lodge. Pin on Google maps.
Location of the Start of All Races is at this Google Pin Location.
Sky vs Mountain
The Whiteface courses have been modified from "Sky"" format into "Mountain Racing"" format. For those who have run in prior years, the Flume Loop trails have been cut out in favor of adding a couple more miles on the mountain. The lines aren't quite as direct, and, hopefully a bit more runable. The tradeoff is though that there's more elevation gain per mile than prior configurations.
We are a cupless race. If the temperature exceeds 75 degrees, all will be required to carry (at the start) at least 10 oz in the VK, and 20 oz in the MMR.
Aid Stations will provide only water and Electrolyte Drink Mix. We may have some ice on hand for heat impact mitigation and injury related issues, but to be used for those purposes only. Volunteers are not to handle entrant’s bottles or hydration bladders. Entrants needing fluids will be required to unholster their own bottles or bladders, remove caps, and hold while volunteers fill bottles or bladders with jugs.
Entrants encouraged to be as self-sufficient as they can in terms of supplies, including carrying enough fluids and food/calories to cover up to 7+ miles without refill.
We will plan on an awards ceremony at the post-event gathering Saturday evening.
Given the shorter duration of this year’s events, a morning / afternoon event format, continued COVID consideration if in mass gatherings without masks, there will not be post-race food provided. Please plan accordingly and bring your own post-race sustenance.
It's the hope to have Ron Heerken's Jr. and Goat Factory Media on course taking photos. Please note that while Ron takes a ton of photos, you are not guaranteed to be in one, nor will there be full sets of finish line photos. Please allow for at least a week, if not two, for him to process and load the many many photos. His website is here: https://www.goatfactorymedia.com/racephoto/
The course will be marked using pink surveyor’s flags with occasional spray chalk and sign arrows.
Anyone who is not able to complete the course MUST NOTIFY THE STAGING AREA and TURN IN BIB for tracking purposes prior to leaving. Please don’t have us calling your emergency contacts trying to track you down.
