At the moment we’re planning on keeping to the original / listed start times. The temp projection has come down a bit, and the mountain will be a few degrees cooler than town. But it’ll remain humid, so please plan to regulate your efforts accordingly, be carrying electrolyte balanced fluid at all times, and don’t over-drink ahead of time to put yourself in a hyponatremia state. What has shifted a bit is that there’s a chance for rain overnight plus a thunderstorm right around a half hour in to each race time. We'll be keeping our eyes on the radar as we get close to race time. It’s possible that we’ll need to delay each start time accordingly. In the chance of a thunderstorm the gondola will need to be closed. If the VK is in process the mountain team will work with us to get everyone back down. We’ll announce any changes as we get closer and / or in the moment. The temperature for the morning start should be pretty comfortable. For those doing 2 loops, particularly if estimated to be out over 4 hours…it’s going to get thick on that second loop. We will have ice at mid mountain, the summit, and the base aid station between loops. Ski Patrol posted up at 3-4 places on the circuit, an ambulance posted up at the base lodge, a creek flowing between the first layers of parking lots behind the lodge, and a river below the lodge. Your body should process between 20 and 30 ounces per hour on a hot day so make that the fluid consumption target. Be committed to getting that in and not falling behind, but also, not going overboard in consuming more than that or overloading in advance. In the heat however, what your body wants more than fluids is for you to do all that you can to keep your core temperature down. Whether through scaling back the effort, packing ice in your bottle and/or garments, or covering the head if thin in hair on top you need to be prepared and smart out there.
